British Car Day
OK, I will admit it. I love cars. I especially love European cars. And above all else, I am a fanatic about British cars. That is why when British Car Day rolls around every year here in Charleston, that I just have to go. I go to catch up with old friends, soak in the atmosphere and, of course, ogle British cars of all types and ages.
If you would like to see some real art on wheels, just check out the pictures I took this past Saturday. From Austin Healeys to Triumphs, from MGs to Allards, they are there. My gallery is here.

Great pictures there of some really beautiful cars! It’s such a shame that our car industry has all but disappeared here in Britain.
It is indeed. Just a few people like Morgan left. How I would love to have a Morgan…
Of course all cars used to have so much more personality than they do now. Wonder if we will look back on the cars of the early 2000s with such fondness.
Well for our sins we have one of the last Rover 75’s to come off the production line. They had just got the cars right and then went out of business. I love the car. It has quite a good fuel consumption for quite a large heavy car and it is gorgeous in my eyes. It’s a dark grey with black leather seats. The dashboard is quite retro and has the look of a vintage one. It is lovely to drive. And best of all it has enough room for my two kids ever growing legs!
That is excellent! I used to drive a 1970 Land Rover when I was in college. I loved that thing. Too bad they are so collectible now and way out of my price range. I wish we had gotten cars like the Rover 75 here. I don’t know really how they would have competed, but I would have bought one. And MG sure could have sold quite a few more cars if they had just sent them here to the US.
And now the new MG TF is delayed again. Wonder if that will ever get off the ground?
I think that Rover and the workers were sold down the river really. It is rumoured that the MG rights were sold off quite early on. And I imagine that the MG logo and it’s history is worth a great deal. I think our car competes well with the same age Jag for looks and the engine is by BMW so that’s pretty darn good as well.
The reviews I read had it comparing quite favorably with the BMW 3-series. So yes, I would say it was certainly a nice car. I agree that the real value of the MG was probably the history and logo. As many firms do, I think that the holders just sold off their most valuable asset without regards for the workers or the buyers of the car. Very sad. Especially for my lifelong favorite - MG.
