A Moral Dilemma
I have a real crisis of action and conscience on my hands. This will affect not only how I appear, but how I am perceived by other people. The question is this – how long do I leave the Obama bumper sticker on my car? Don’t laugh! This is serious. We have all seen the people with bumper stickers from an election two or three presidents ago, and it just makes those cars look ridiculous. Is the problem that the sticker won’t come off? Is the driver thinking there might be a recount? Was that the last time the car was washed? Or is the owner just living in either euphoria or denial?

I want to leave the Obama sticker on my car long enough for people to know who I supported for President and that I am happy that he won. But I don’t want to gloat either. That would be bad form and not at all in line with the bridge building we need to do. And the election is over – for the most part. Maybe I should leave the sticker on the bumper until the Electoral College does its thing. That would be the surest end, right? Or maybe I should just wait until the inauguration in January. That way during the end of the current administration my car would point to the next administration.
Or maybe I should just do it now. Get that sticker off the bumper, give the car a good wash, and move on with my life and my work. What do you thing? How long until you get tired of seeing all the election paraphernalia?

Could you get a new sticker that shows support of Obama as the president?

I suggest you replace it with the sticker I saw yesterday which simply said, “Yes we did”.
You think too much.

No, if it were me, I would remove it and get that spot ready the next big bumper sticker issue.

Moral dilemma? This is a moral dilemma?
Why bother to remove it, then? Just buy yourself a new car and forget having to worry about the when of it, or of washing the car. No one will question that your brand new car doesn’t have the bumper sticker that your previous one did.
Seriously, why do you care whether someone is projecting their opinions about how long a bumper sticker is appropriate onto you?
Leave it on until tax time. Then, after you have found how what you owe for taxes, you can go rip it off the car in disgust.
Works for nearly any candidate in nearly any year.
#Lynn – I think you and Michael have the same idea.
#Michael – would that be considered gloating?
#Snow – not according to my wife!
#Ant – now there is a thought, I could wait to remove in until the opposing ones are removed.
#Ogre – yes, I hate it when I type faster than my spelling checker corrects and shows up my poor spelling skills. As for why worry, because I want to take it off for a different sticker, but I don’t want to be non-supportive either. I do like the new car idea – beats washing the current one!
#terrifik – Well, but that would be the same for any politician. Even if Obama was to lower taxes, I don’t think he could do it in time for this next year’s filing.
I left my Kerry/Edwards sticker on post-loss for about four months, so I think you’re totally allowed to leave a post-win sticker on for… as long as you want, hell! I only took mine off because my mom made me – & because she owned the car.

#Kate – well that would work… if I had stuck it on someone else’s car!
Sell the car and fogetaboutit.
Oh, btw, I tagged you on a meme post on my blog.
You are welcome.

I’m not American, so feel free to disregard, but I like to use January 1st for making changes – new year, new rules or whatever. Maybe that will work.

Michael, my mother still rocks her Gore/Lieberman sticker from 2000. She refuses to remove it. There’s now an Obama/Biden one next to it, which will undoubtably still be there when the car finally makes it to the junkyard.
Bad answer?!

@Snow – I did the survey. And wish I could sell the car, but it wouldn’t bring enough to get a good replacement.
@Simon – That would make sense, would go along with New Year’s resolutions and such.
@Nissa – That is a very good answer! It also lets us know that she keeps her cars for a while…
