I always donate my blood to red cross twice a year, not only so bank my blood but to help some people who really needs it. I Do this because I just in case that somethings happen to me and I need a blood transplant, well I think the Red Cross is the first agency that will help me. Try to donate your blood too, its good for your health.

For those who wanted to reach out to the less fortunate but do not have time to directly give their help, the best choice would be the charitable organization.

Glad to hear from you! I totally agree with what yo say. Kiva.org is a great organization, and the entire micro-loan movement is really making a huge difference.

Another point on amplification. The $10 that might reach a community in Botswana out of the $100 you invest may actually improve their lives and their ability to take care of themselves exponentially more than $100 of expensive American groceries will help at home.

Another approach is the microloan - which are repaid at very high rates - small loans at low interest through organizations like kiva.org that help 3rd world citizens develop their own resources, then pay back the money so it can be used over and over again.

The mainstreet approach certainly has its benefits as well. When you are more directly connected to the recipient of your efforts, you better understand their plight and can work out more effective ways to help them. It also makes a visible example that your neighbors may wish to follow.
