    Michael,

Jews for Jesus are Christians. They were born Jews who converted to Christianity but decided to maintain aspects of their Jewish identity – including certain religious aspects. The first Christians, after all, were Jews who did not abandon their Jewishness to become Christian, so they claim there is no conflict here.

Of course, most rabbis hold otherwise.

The conflict comes down to a question of who owns identity rights. Jews for Jesus say their birthright trumps the religious decisions of traditional rabbis. The rabbis hold that Jews for Jesus have renounced their Jewishness when they accept Jesus as the Jewish Messiah, Son of God, and God the Son.

Paul, I appreciate that. It really did have me confused. Especially since the bus was pulling into an Episcopal church. Some things really do make you question what you think you know. I guess that is a good thing though!

That’s one of the best short summaries of who or what Jews for Jesus are Paul. Maybe you should suggest it to them as a possible elevator speech. ;-)

WTF?! Just opened the UU World magazine with a huge ad from the Freedom *From* Religion Foundation on the inside cover seeking donations for its “Freethought” Bus Ad campaign that said -

Faith is believing what you know ain’t so.

    and

I don’t believe in God because I don’t believe in Mother Goose.

    I am confU*Used. . . ;-)

    Sorry I just couldn’t resist that. :-)

I had heard there was some controversial ad in the upcoming edition of the magazine, but I hadn’t seen it yet. I think it came in the mail today, so I need to go take a look at that. Things that make you go hmmmm…. ???
