I saw this great combo on the way home near Barnes & Noble on Thursday. Ma’am, whoever you are, you rock. I love the car. I love the board on top. And I love the combo. Keep doing your thing and keep the world fun. I owe you one!!

I have friends who take ski holidays every year. They go to all sorts of places all over the world, yes rich friends, to take romantic ski get-aways. They have gone on holiday in the US, Canada and Europe. I will tell you, some of those places are beautiful and could cause you to fall in love even if you are an old curmudgeon like me.

I have searched many of these places on the web and have looked at the mountains through Switzerland, Germany and Austria. I love looking at those because you can get between them all by train and mass transit and never have to leave your relaxed state. (I love driving, but not in the snow.)

Of course I will tell you the truth, I have been skiing once. And that one time was when I was a teenager when I was much more limber and had better balance than I do know. I never made it off the bunny slope and nearly killed a young child in the brief time I was there. Luckily I am tall and he ducked and went through my legs. We both fell over comedy style after getting about 3 feet beyond each other. Somehow on that same trip I lost my pants to my thermal underwear but came back with two shirt. All in all, these are things that make me think I should stay away from ski slopes. Especially since I was on a church youth trip at the time.

OK, there seriously is not other reason for posting this other than the fact that I find it amazingly cute. These are our two kittens, Sirius and Nacho, curled up in my office chair. I have no idea why Nacho insists on sleeping with his head turned upside down, but he almost always does. Either that, or he puts his paw over his eyes presumably to shield them from the light.  Anyway, here you have it. Kittens in a Chair.

First there was this one from my father – Laws – But Not Hearts – Have Changed on Racism. “As a child, I listened to wonderful people who spent their lives on the foreign mission field, yet black people weren’t welcome in our church”.

Next, one from my cousin, Don Gilliland – Inner Peace, Part IV on his visit to a Birmingham, Alabama, mosque. “The anxiety I’d felt earlier is beginning not so much to lift as to transform to an awareness of a closely-knit, healthy community. Not terribly different from the communities I’m more accustomed to.”

And last but not least, an editorial from my friend and high school class mate, Reverend Matt Tittle – Liberty University Dehumanizes Homosexuals. “This sort of ignorance, hatred, and hostility have no place in our society today. ”

Now it is not surprising at all to me that these three people wrote these articles. What does kind of startle me though is that they all came out on the same day. Talk about serendipity! The other thing these articles say to me is that I am surrounded by some great people – and you can certainly tell where the ideas that help make up my life come from.

Now those of you in the North East or other places of regular snowfall will scoff at this as nothing. "Springtime weather!" you might declare. But in a place where we are in shorts and t-shirts at Christmas it is something wondrous, magical, and more than a little odd. Snow covered palm trees?  Snow men on sailboats? Just a bit different from what you might expect.

So, here are some pictures of my yard that I took this morning. Yes, they are all from inside the warm house through the great invention of insulated double pane windows. Snow may be beautiful, but I was born a Southern boy and my blood is thin.

I just wanted to post the link to my Google Buzz profile in case anyone on Posterous is interested. Just go to http://www.google.com/profiles/carnellm and you will find me!

Honestly I am not sure how Buzz will work. There was a lot of buzz, excuse the pun, about Wave when it first came out, but that soon died out. Now I really don't know anyone using Wave of that excited about it. But, Buzz is a bit different and a bit easier to wrap your head around. For those who already have GMail accounts, it is like have FaceBook updates right there in your GMail. For those who have tried to used Twitter but it didn't make sense, Buzz is a bit like an organized and more controllable version of that social media platform.

So, only time will tell! But, in the meantime, please look me up and follow. I will do the same for you….

But now it is nearly 30 years later and time has mellowed me – a bit. And I find that all those people I used to know are still out there, and guess what, for some reason they remember me fondly! No idea why, but these are some great people and they still want to be friends with me. Will miracles ever cease?

At the moment I would just like to mention two of the people. The first is Lydia Montgomery. She surprised me when she contacted me. And she just kept on surprising with her friendship, generosity, and humor. Can someone please tell me why I didn’t hang out with her more back then? Makes no sense.

The other fine lady is Liz DeLoach. Now here is smart, funny, successful woman if I ever saw one. Doubt that? Take a look at the guest article she wrote for my professional site – Why Businesses Should Have a Website and a Facebook Page. She is dead on target and addressing a very timely issue. Amazing what people you grew up with can do when enabled. And then there is the simple personal caring she has shown for me and my family recently. I am humbled.

Now don’t get me wrong, these are two great women, but they are only two of the people I have reconnected with recently. To these and all the rest, I just want to say thanks. Thanks for the past, but even more so, thanks for the great years to come!
